You may never have heard of The New Orleans Suspects, but you will not forget them once you hear them.

Five incredibly talented musicians make up the group, which is an offshoot of several great New Orleans bands – The Radiators, the Dirty Dozen Brass Band,  and The Neville Brothers Band. They will make their first Montgomery appearance Sunday, March 4, at 3 p.m. at The Capri Theatre in a show sponsored by The Alabama Roots Music Society.

New Orleans Suspects

Experience and versatility have been used to describe this group that is more than just a jam band.

“Mean” Willie Green has been the drummer for The Neville Brothers Band since the 1980s and Reggie Scanlan, the bass player, has been with The Radiators for 33 years. Scanlan has also backed up James Booker and Professor Longhair.

Tenor saxophonist Kevin Harris is a founding member of The Dirty Dozen Brass Band and has recorded with Elvis Costello, Dave Matthews, the Black Crowes, Modest Mouse, Norah Jones, Widespread Panic, and zydeco legend Buckwheat Zydeco.

Lead guitarist Jake Eckert has been a prominent figure in the Atlanta rock scene, playing with the likes of Derek Trucks and Col. Bruce Hampton. He has also performed with Warren Haynes, Dr. John, Dave Matthews, Allen Toussaint, and jazz great Larry Carlton.

The group rounds out with C.R. Gruver, a classically trained pianist who has toured with Outformation and Angie Aparo. He leads his own band in New Orleans known as Funkifry’d.

The New Orleans Suspects create music firmly rooted in the modern New Orleans sound, and they perform both originals and covers.

General admission is $10 in advance and $15 the day of the show, but only $8 for members of ARMS and the Capri Community Film Society. Tickets can be purchased in advance at Capitol Book and News in Cloverdale and at The Capri Theatre. Concessions will be available, so no coolers allowed.
