image003Now that the days are getting shorter, the leaves are turning colors, and marching band noises drift through our Midtown neighborhoods, our weekends begin to fill up with many events. And among those annual events that have survived the test of time and interest is TavernFest, Landmarks Foundation’s annual fundraiser. Mark your calendars for Friday evening, October 9 for TavernFest 2015, a fun street festival.

Historic North Hull Street in Old Alabama Town is closed off in front of Lucas Tavern, thus the name. The event always features the newest, freshest and most unique currently brewed craft beers for introduction and your consumption as well as some new-to-our-market fine wines. Food will be available from Jennie Weller Catering. Music will be provided beginning at 7:00 by The Courtyard Saints who were a huge hit at TavernFest 2014.

image005The 2015 Silent Auction has been expanded to include some exciting goods, services, trips and artwork including a painting by noted local artist Clark Walker. The gates at E. Jefferson and Columbus Streets will open at 5:57. I have no idea why the planning committee picked that odd time! But if you get here at 5:57 you’ll be ready to hit the beer lines ahead of the 6:00 p.m. latecomers. Advance admission is $15 and tickets are available at the Old Alabama Town Reception Center or by calling 334-240-4617. Or you can wait, take the chance of a sellout, and pay $20 at the gate that evening. Tables and chairs are available near the dance floor on a first come, first serve basis. $300 will get you and seven of your closest friends a seat at a private table on one of the porches of the historic structures along North Hull Street. From there, you can have quiet conversation and do some serious people-watching.

The monies collected at TavernFest go to assist Landmarks Foundation of Montgomery in maintaining the museums at Old Alabama Town and to promote historic preservation throughout our city. Since 1967, Landmarks Foundation has been the leader in the historic preservation movement in Montgomery. Supporting TavernFest2015 is a fun and exciting way to enjoy a cool autumn evening while supporting a cause those of us Midtowners really care about. How can I get a copy of the book that is about historical neighborhoods in Montgomery? Would love to see the pictures and learn about the architecture. Thanks.
