20170313_074727The City of Montgomery’s Historic Preservation Commission has announced is first Historic Preservation Awards program to participate in the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s celebration of May as Historic Preservation Month. With this special awards program, the Commission will recognize contributions and activities that celebrate the historic preservation efforts and cultural resources that promote Montgomery’s rich history and architectural heritage. Through City Ordinance 28-2004, the Historic Preservation Commission is tasked with promoting the educational, cultural, economic and general welfare of the City of Montgomery through the preservation and protection of buildings, sites, structures, areas and districts of historic significance and interest. HPC promotes the preservation and enhancement of local historic, architectural, archaeological and aesthetic heritage found in the City. The Historic Preservation Commission meets monthly in the City Auditorium and is open to the public.

  • To encourage excellence in the planning, design, and execution of projects affecting the City’s historic resources and heritage
  • To raise greater public awareness and understanding of historic preservation efforts and their benefits to the City of Montgomery

Nominations may be submitted by any individuals, organization, agency, or business and the nomination process is fairly simple and any individual, organization, agency, or business that has demonstrated an outstanding achievement in historic preservation is eligible to receive a preservation award. Everyone is invited to participate and only a few criteria are listed below:

  • Related projects must be located within the City of Montgomery and have been completed in the 2016 calendar year.
  • Projects nominated do not have to be historically designated or be in a historic district.
  • Nominations do need to be submitted on the official Nomination Form. The more support materials (photographs, drawings, etc.) the better!
